Cymraeg About Snowdonia Green Key

The aim of the Snowdonia Green Key is to successfully develop the countryside in a sustainable way, with improved economic returns for local businesses, and an improved, flexible public transport system for all. Click for Aims and Objectives

A key to better health

An additional benefit of the Snowdonia Green Key is that it also addresses some of the current concerns relating to poor health resulting from a lack of exercise. By improving and integrating transport options the opportunities for exercise will become more readily available and accessible. Integrated walking and cycling routes linked to public transport will remove one of the existing barriers to exercise, making it easier for people to implement lifestyle changes. This dedicated system of connected routes will provide additional appeal to existing outdoor users but also help to nurture and encourage new users.

Cardio-vascular disease and other illnesses related to poor diet and less exercise are a particular problem in Wales. Research findings show that cycling and walking can be introduced as a normal part of every day life, being a form of exercise accessible to all ages and life styles.

Snowdonia Green Key is a Partnership between Conwy Borough Council, Gwynedd Council, Countryside Council for Wales, Snowdonia National Park Authority, the Welsh Assembly's Department for Enterprise and Transport (formally the WDA) and Visit Wales.
